otaku, weirder than you could imagine

Otaku are a weird breed indeed. I was having a conversation with a colleague last night about these hyper geeks, and their attitudes to women. To cut a very long, and actually very interesting story short, they grow up on manga and video games, and don't really know what to say to a real girl. This has led to a massive growth in decidedly odd toys and collectibles. Mugura san, my colleague, took me to one such toyshop today at lunchtime, and it was incredible.

I thought this was because of some obscenity law, but apparently it's because the geek wants to think that no-one else has seen the lady's parts.... that would be disgusting of course. Second thing to note is the price. This character in the front is 39800 yen, which is about 180 quid.

Second was this 'new technology' which has finally made your doll's boobs squeezy, and oh so realistic...

Another big trend was pillows which are around 5 feet long, you can then buy pillowcases which feature a 'lifesize' picture of your favourite manga character, for you to snuggle and cuddle all night. It's so weird, but really really interesting.
