under the knife

Went for some surgery today. First time i've ever been in that situation and it was amazing. I have had a lump in my leg for years and decided to get it seen to, so today was the day. I went to a little private surgery up in Marylebone this morning and was fascinated from start to finish by the procedure. It was all done under local so i could watch the whole thing, but after a couple of minutes i felt really faint so i decided to watch the ceiling tiles instead. What impressed me most was all the kit the surgeon used, some of it's beautiful. I am still shocked how much they throw away though, i know it's hygienic and all that, but it seems really wasteful. Anyhow, i'm at home now, with a badass scar above my knee, feeling ok but we'll see how chipper i am when the anaesthetic wears off...

Now i'm not usually prone to using sleepinginmyhead as a portal for political discussion, but this is astounding... The war in Iraq has cost an estimated $456 billion, so far. The Boston News website has calculated what else that cash could have been spent on. For example, with just one sixth of that amount, you could convert all the cars in America to run on Ethanol.
