I just went to dinner with a good friend from work, and on the way she said, 'do you like chicken?'... I thought it was an odd question, firstly because everyone likes chicken, and secondly, what restaurant only sells chicken? The answer to my second question was easy 'this restaurant only sells chicken', and it soon became apparent that my first question might well be challenged. This was a yakitori restaurant, meaning skewered chicken was the dish of the day, the dish of every day. I love barbecued chicken, so i think it was the perfect place. The menu had a few extra types of chicken, that i'm not sure i've tried before, but today was to be different. Shown above (sorry for the bad picture) is the menu, and it's clear to see that the japanese aren't shy when it comes to showing where your food comes from. Some of the items on the menu, in case you can't see from the picture are:
neck, tail, skin, cartilage, windpipe, heart, liver, spleen, diaphragm, gizzard, duodenum, kidney, oviduct (womb) and 'hormone', which i think means chicken bollocks.
I tried a few, you'll be pleased to know, and the gizzard was the biggest surprise, quite tasty and very hard, not unlike ox tongue. I did have my fair share of thigh and breast meat though, and why not....
